Youth Group Adviser
Part-Time Youth Group Adviser for Adath Emanu-El

WE ARE: We are an affiliated Reform congregation with the Union of Reform Judaism. Our worship services are both spiritual and learning experiences. We offer an outstanding educational program for both children and adults. We exist under the concept of a shared leadership, fulfilling the ancient principle of Kol Yisrael arayvim zeh ba-zeh — “All Israel is responsible for one another.”

YOU ARE: A passionate Jewish educator/mentor who can connect with and engage youth grades 7th-12th. You are creative, confident, and compassionate. You are open-minded, a team player, and want to further develop your professional skills as part of a dynamic synagogue staff.

JOB IS: This position oversees the two oldest youth groups for our synagogue. AEFTY is Adath Emanu-El Federation of Temple Youth. AEFTY SR is our youth group for grades 9th-12th. AEFTY JR is our youth group for grades 7th and 8th. The youth groups sometimes have events together and sometimes separate. Below is a detailed job description.

As Youth Group Adviser your responsibilities will include:

Building personal relationships with synagogue teens. This will take place both inside the synagogue and beyond its walls including social media.

Serving as a positive role model, educator, and guide in the lives of our youth.

Post pandemic re-building of our youth groups
-
Recruiting and verifying chaperones for events

Keeping detailed expense reports and tracking payments for events.

Attending monthly Youth Activities Committee meetings and coordinating with Youth Activities Chairperson and Vice President of Youth Activities

Helping to coordinate and support special programs such as annual Purim Carnival, holiday programs, social action opportunities, and other synagogue programs and initiatives.
Current expectations for AEFTY SR (9-12 grade):

Overseeing the planning, coordinating, and leading of our AEFTY SR activities, including youth group meetings, fundraisers (2-3 a school year), and monthly events/activities.

Re-vamp the AEFTY SR board which is composed of the teens, they should have bi-weekly or monthly meetings in which they will plan most of the events with your oversight
Current expectations for AEFTY JR (7-8 grade):

Plan, coordinate, and lead AEFTY JR activities including bi-monthly events/activities
Future expectations:
-
Participating in ongoing professional development and networking opportunities such as youth professional roundtables and cohorts.

Promoting Jewish camping (in particular URJ camping and JCC) and advising youth and families on URJ and JCC camping opportunities.

Connecting with local, regional, and national Jewish youth movements (BBYO and/or NFTY) to connect synagogue youth with other Jewish teens
Related optional opportunities (with additional compensation):

Teaching on Wednesday evenings for our Teen program or Sunday morning in a K-6 class
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

College Grad preferred
-
Experience in Jewish camping and/or other youth programs, religious school teaching, or other relevant settings.

Self-starter, strong organizational and communication skills, ability to connect with and mentor teens

Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suites and Social Media platforms
The Youth Group Adviser reports to the Executive Director and will work closely with the Youth Activities Committee, Youth Activities Chairman, and Vice President of Youth Activities. This is a part-time position.
SALARY: $9,000
